Proactive chiropractic care isn't just for pro athletes

Why Chicago's corporate athletes should treat chiropractic care like the pros do — proactively. How we assess, adjust, and prevent injury…

Pro athletes don't wait until they're hurt to see a chiropractor — they get checked, adjusted, and rebalanced so they stay in the game. You deserve the same approach. This post explains what proactive chiropractic care looks like for everyday Chicago athletes (we call you corporate athletes), why alignment and joint function matter for performance, and what a full workup at our South Loop office actually includes.

Who we treat: the corporate athlete

Our downtown Chicago practice is full of what we call corporate athletes — people who spend their workday at a desk and their evenings and weekends running the lakefront, training at CrossFit, or playing flag football in the park.

That swing from sedentary to high-output is exactly where injuries happen. The number one cause of disability in America is low back pain. More people miss more time from work because of it than any other condition. When your spine is out of alignment, joints don't move well, and muscles don't fire to stabilize you, breakdown is just a matter of time.

Reactive vs. proactive care

Professional athletes treat their bodies as the asset they are. They get adjusted, mobilized, and rehabbed before pain becomes injury.

Most of our corporate athletes come in the other direction — reactively, once something already hurts. Both paths work, but proactive care is faster, cheaper, and a lot less frustrating. The mindset shift is simple: instead of seeing a chiropractor because you're in pain, see one because you're about to run a marathon, start a new training block, or want to keep up with your kids without your back lighting up.

What a thorough evaluation looks like

When you come in, we don't just crack your back and send you home. We build a full clinical picture first.

History and goal setting

We take a detailed history: when the issue started, how it happened, whether it's chronic, how it feels, and how it's limiting you. Then we set goals together. Pain-free is the floor. Above that: better mobility, more stability, back in the gym, finishing a Tough Mudder by summer's end — whatever matters to you.

Spinal and joint assessment

We evaluate your spine for subluxations — joints that are out of alignment and putting extra stress on the surrounding tissue, nerves, and discs. Then we look at how each joint is moving and which muscles cross it, so we can see where you're locked up and where you're unstable.

Orthopedic, neurological, and functional exam

We run orthopedic and neurological tests, then a functional exam of the injured area and the chain that supports it. For low back pain, for example, we look at how your core, hamstrings, and glutes work together with your lumbar spine.

Digital X-rays

We take digital X-rays because your spinal structure dictates how load travels through your joints, discs, and nerves. If you're out of alignment, that misload is what's quietly breaking you down.

How we build the treatment plan

After the workup, our team sits down, lines up the clinical findings with your goals, and builds a roadmap. Treatment plans are case by case, but most include some combination of:

  • Spinal adjustments to restore joint motion and correct subluxations.
  • Spinal traction using Chiropractic BioPhysics methods. CBP is the most-researched form of chiropractic and applies engineering principles to the spine — it's about structure and how you load it. When we can objectively change the shape of your spine, research is clear that you get long-term improvement.
  • Soft tissue therapy to break up adhesions — think of them like glue inside a muscle — that drive a lot of pain and dysfunction.
  • Physical therapy to address the muscle imbalances that come from sitting all day in corporate America.

Blended together and applied consistently, this approach improves joint function, spinal alignment, tissue health, balance, and strength.

The payoff: perform without fear of breakdown

Every athlete — corporate or professional — feels better, performs better, and gets hurt less when their joints move well, their tissue is healthy, and the muscles around each joint are balanced.

The ask is simple. Don't wait for pain. Before your next marathon, season, or training block, get your spine checked. Are you aligned? Are you moving well? What needs work? Address it now, and you spend the rest of the year training instead of rehabbing.
