Complete chiropractic treatment plan for auto accident injuries

See how our Chicago chiropractors treat auto accident injuries — from acute pain relief to restoring strength, stability, and full range…

If you've been in a car accident, the right chiropractic care can take you from acute pain and inflammation back to full function. This post walks you through the exact treatment plan we follow at Advanced Health Chiropractic — how we evaluate the injury, what the early visits look like, and how we progress you through range of motion, stability, and strength until you reach Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI).

Step one: a thorough evaluation

Every auto accident case at Advanced Health starts with a detailed evaluation. We take a full history of the accident, walk through the mechanism of injury, and then examine the spine and soft tissue.

That includes an orthopedic exam and a neurological exam to make sure the affected joint or area of the spine isn't showing any red flags. We then take X-rays. With that information, we can diagnose the issue accurately and build a treatment plan tailored to you.

Phase one: the acute phase

In the early days after a crash, you're typically in a lot of pain. Inflammation is high and basic daily tasks — getting dressed, sleeping, turning your head — are a challenge.

Our goal in this phase is the opposite of all that: lower your pain, reduce inflammation, and start restoring basic function.

Here's what that looks like in our office:

  • Gentle, instrument-assisted adjustments. We start on the lighter side rather than going straight to a manual adjustment.
  • Electrical muscle stimulation ("stim") and ice. Stim supports muscle recovery, and ice helps control inflammation.
  • A realistic timeline. Most patients need three to six visits before they start noticing meaningful improvement — less pain, easier mornings, better sleep.

Once you're trending in the right direction, we layer in the next set of treatment protocols.

Phase two: restore range of motion

Healthy joints need to move well. Before we can build strength or stability, we have to restore your range of motion.

That phase usually involves:

  • Soft tissue work
  • Targeted stretching
  • Mobility drills
  • Basic stability work to protect the joint as it opens up

As your range of motion improves and your pain continues to drop, we begin to ramp up the physical therapy side of your plan.

Recently in a car accident? Don't wait for the pain to settle on its own. Come in for a $49 new patient exam and X-rays so we can map out your auto accident recovery plan. Book online or call (312) 987-4878.

Phase three: stability and strength

Once range of motion is restored, we move into manual adjustments and add spinal traction where appropriate. This is where we really start working you through the physical therapy side of the plan.

The goals for phases two and three are straightforward:

  1. Build stability in the injured joint and throughout the spine.
  2. Build strength on top of that stability so the area can handle real-world demands again.

The finish line: Maximum Medical Improvement

By the time you finish your treatment plan, the goal is Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI) — the point where you've recovered as fully as the injury allows. For most of our auto accident patients, that means returning to normal daily activities without the pain, stiffness, and limitations the accident caused.

If you've been in a motor vehicle accident in Chicago, the sooner we evaluate you, the better your outcome tends to be. Schedule your new patient visit or call (312) 987-4878 and we'll take it from there.
